Effect of Rare Earth Yttrium on Inclusion Characteristics of Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel

To investigate the influence of heavy rare earth element yttrium on type, morphology, and quantity distribution inclusions in grain-oriented silicon steel, thermodynamic calculation was carried out typical steel containing yttrium. The main experimental steels with without were observed analyzed using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM, Zeiss Gemini SEM 300) energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS, OXFORD Ultim Extreme). backscatter diffraction (EBSD, Symmetry) used to analyze local average misorientation hot-rolled plate. results show that Y-free are mainly long MnS, irregular Al2O3 MnS-Al2O3. Y-bearing spherical compounds. number decreases size increases compared steel. mean value dislocation density smaller which could avoid cracking problem caused by accumulation during hot rolling. After heating rough-rolling sample 1350 °C, there is no obvious difference type between However, area fraction Y bearing slightly. According results, three kinds inclusions, YS, Y2S3 Y2O2S, among YS has strongest stability Y2O2S weakest. can effectively modify transforming formed deoxidation into suppress precipitation MnS inclusions. Thus, formability be improved.
